Sean Dyche shares fresh Dominic Calvert-Lewin contract update at Everton

Sean Dyche has provided the latest update surrounding the ongoing contract situation of Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 27-year-old is expected to depart the Blues upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season, having shown “no inclination” to extend on fresh terms at Goodison Park [BBC Sport].

However, Dyche addressed the situation in his pre-match press conference [12 December] ahead of the clash against Arsenal on Saturday [14 December], and believes Calvert-Lewin’s future will be clarified once The Friedkin Group assume control of the Toffees.

He said: “The situation is an ongoing one. It could depend on the takeover, which is not completed yet.”

The Friedkin Group will have the final say on Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton

The Everton faithful must come to terms with the fact Calvert-Lewin will not extend his stay on Merseyside beyond the current campaign.

While Dan Friedkin may attempt to persuade the forward to stay put, the proposed takeover is still not yet completed, leaving little time for a sensational U-turn.

Calvert-Lewin has been unimpressive at Goodison Park this year, only netting two goals in 14 Premier League appearances, and his demands are likely to outweigh his potential impact leading the frontline.

Therefore, it is in the best interests of all parties to end the relationship and allow the England international to depart for pastures new.

He will have his pick of the litter when deciding his next move – AC Milan, Juventus and AS Roma are options to negotiate a Bosman transfer in January, and Newcastle United and Aston Villa are options should he wish to remain in England [AsRomaLive].

However, his time with Everton is reaching its conclusion at the perfect time – Friedkin is preparing to usher in a new era on Merseyside and is prepared to lay a statement of intent to the Premier League by overseeing a major squad overhaul [TEAMtalk].

Calvert-Lewin may hold all the cards to decide his future, but Everton will be better off without the forward in the long run.
