Everton are unlikely to make expensive signings in the January transfer window despite The Friedkin Group's imminent arrival due to PSR constraints, according to The i.

The newspaper reported via their website on Tuesday (17 December) that the Toffees, who are expected to receive some financial support from Dan Friedkin, will focus on smarter recruitment instead, with an emphasis on the need to "box clever" in the transfer market.

While buying their way out of trouble is deemed "impossible", Sean Dyche's side is likely to make a "couple of targeted signings" in January.

The Merseyside-based club could also offload a few players to balance their books, with Beto among those linked with a January exit.

Things could change in the summer, however, as 11 players are running out of their contracts at the end of the season.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what Kevin Thelwell has in store for Everton in January.

There is no doubt that Dyce needs to bolster his ranks to avoid relegation this season, with goalscoring particularly proving to be a problem for him.

The Goodison Park outfit has been linked with several attackers, including Galatasaray's Baris Alper Yilmaz [TBR Football], in recent weeks.

The January transfer window is more often than not a difficult market to navigate and Thelwell will have to be shrewd to find value with the limited resources he has.

Everton are currently placed 16th in the Premier League after 15 games, sitting just three points above the relegation zone, albeit with a game in hand.
