Dyche fighting a losing battle at Everton with Harrison after what’s happened

Sean Dyche and Everton have been through many ups and downs already this season.

The Toffees are currently 15th in the Premier League and while they’ve managed to earn draws against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City over the last couple of weeks, it still feels like more could come from the Merseyside outfit.

Their defence has been excellent recently, conceding only once in games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City is a fantastic achievement.

However, Everton’s attack has been a thorn in Dyche’s side since the start of the campaign.

Of course, Dwight McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye are the exceptions to this but others among their ranks have been poor.

Jack Harrison is a player who particularly springs to mind as he’s failed to show any sort of consistent form at any point this season.

However, as per a report from the Liverpool ECHO (27 December), it seems that Dyche “appreciates” the Leeds United loanee despite him not clicking into gear just yet.

“There has been plenty of guile again this term from Harrison he came back from Elland Road for another temporary switch, he has struggled in the final third with no goals or assists,” Chris Beesley wrote.

“Dyche appreciates the work the 28-year-old puts in coming up and down the flank but as a player in a wide attacking area, there can be much more, and needs to be.

“The same goes for Jesper Lindstrom who Harrison has been battling it out with for a starting berth this season and there remains a feeling that this talented pair could both become real forces if they can just click into gear”.

Jack Harrison needs to improve his form for Everton soon

As Harrison is only on a season-long loan deal, like he was last term, you’d think that he’d be working himself into the ground to try and earn himself a permanent stay at Goodison Park.

No one can doubt that he is trying and he really is a grafter but at times the quality has been clearly lacking, which is a concern.

His performance against the Cityzens on Boxing Day wasn’t much better either as he failed to convert any of the chances he had in the clash.

At the moment, it doesn’t feel like there’s any reason for Everton to extend his Merseyside stint so unless, in the second half of the season he can find his shooting boots and the form he’s often shown earlier in his career, it doesn’t feel like there much of a future for him at Goodison Park.

Especially if Dyche isn’t offered an extension to his tenure as the end of the season comes around. He may be a player the manager appreciates, but it does feel like he’s fighting a losing battle.
