Friedkins must change Everton priority after bargain transfer news
Everton have been linked with a move for Lyon midfielder Maxence Caqueret despite attacking woes being their main concern.
There’s no doubt that the Toffees need to utilise the January window but they need to do it correctly and the potential “bargain” signing of Caqueret (GiveMeSport) would show a complete disregard for the main concern at Goodison Park which lies in the front line.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has failed to influence the season while Beto has offered little and their transfer priority has to be the addition of a striker.
With Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gueya and James Garner among several other midfield options when fit, the Toffees are well-stocked there and they can’t afford to waste any time by getting distracted in other areas.
Everton need to prioritise attacking signings
Recent links to Lyon’s Rayan Cherki (Business Standard, 1 January pg 13) showcase that the Toffees are looking to improve their attacking identity and that is paramount to their chances of avoiding the drop.
Especially with the way Sean Dyche sets his team up, individual quality up front is key to results and the Toffees don’t have an awful lot of it outside of Iliman Ndiaye who has been their standout performer this season.
January always poses a challenge for clubs trying to recruit as prices can be inflated and other sides can be reluctant to let their players leave so Everton and the Friedkins need to carefully decide on their priorities.

Failure to add attacking quality could all but confirm their spot in the Championship next season and The Friedkin Group will not want such a stain on their CV on Merseyside.
The coming weeks will certainly provide an anxious atmosphere with the knowledge that it could make or break the season.
In other Everton news, the Toffees look set to keep one player that Dyche doesn’t like.
