Rayan Cherki transfer: Everton move more likely after Lyon trouble

Everton are more likely than Liverpool to sign Olympique Lyon winger Rayan Cherki in the January transfer window, according to the Business Standard.

The news outlet reports in its print edition (1 January, pg 13) that the Ligue 1 outfit could be forced to sell the 21-year-old due to their financial struggles.

Liverpool have also been linked with the France Under-21 international, but a move to Goodison Park is more probable this month.

Crystal Palace and Fulham have also been mentioned as two other possible destinations.

Ryan Cherki is an ambitious transfer target for Everton

With someone like Liverpool interested in Cherki, it seems like a challenging task for the Blues to convince him to move to the other part of Merseyside.

The Toffees haven’t been at their best over the last few years, battling relegation season after season under Sean Dyche.

As things stand, Everton are 16th in the league table, just two points ahead of 18th-place Ipswich Town after their 2-0 win over Chelsea on 30 December.

The Merseyside outfit have lacked an attacking threat in the current campaign, scoring just 15 goals in the Premier League.

Iliman Ndiaye has looked the best in the final third, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto missing their shooting boots yet again.

Armando Broja is the other option in the number nine position for Dyche, but the Albanian only made his first start for the Toffees in the 2-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest.

Cherki would undoubtedly add more quality to the forward line at Goodison, but it remains to be seen where his next destination will be in January.
