Sean Dyche sack: Everton verdict drops as possible disaster shared
Everton would want someone like Sean Dyche immediately if they sacked him at any point this season, Dean Saunders has said.
Speaking on talkSPORT (1 January, 9:11am), Saunders was adamant Dyche is “the right man” for the task at hand at Goodison Park this term; with that being to get the 36 points required to stay up.
Dyche’s side are currently 16th in the Premier League table and 17 points towards that total, and with their new stadium move on the horizon, Saunders said winning points matters more than playing style.
“Money’s been wasted – not by Sean Dyche, by other managers and the people who are signing the players”, Saunders said.
“They’ve wasted all the money they had – £600million? They’ve got a new stadium, which would be a disaster if they went down.
“They’ve got the right man in charge. If you sack Sean Dyche, who would be the man to take over at Everton? It’s probably Sean Dyche.
“You need to get 36 points – forget about the style of play, forget about it, until the club gets itself back on level footing. At the moment, they’re in survival mode.”
Everton set to stick or twist on Sean Dyche future
While Saunders is spot on that with their move to Bramley-Moore Dock taking place this year, the Toffees’ sole goal must be remaining a Premier League club, ambitions are much higher on Merseyside.
Those ambitions are hopefully set to be realised in the long run thanks to Dan Friedkin’s takeover at Goodison, with potential reinforcements in the January window already being identified [GiveMeSport, 1 January].

With Dyche out of contract in the summer, Friedkin faces a decision over the short-term future of the manager who has kept the Blues in the Premier League for the past two seasons running.
Supporters will hope that relegation battles become a thing of the past under Friedkin’s leadership, but for the here and now, January is shaping up to be a crucial month both on and off the field at Goodison.
Dyche’s style of football will be seen as just about enough to keep the Toffees in the top flight this term, but with new owners in the building, it remains to be seen how soon Friedkin decides to change course.
In other Everton news, Kevin Thelwell will be worried if Dan Friedkin spots a key pattern with some of his signings at Goodison.
