Sean Dyche wishes he has Nottm Forest star at Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche will wish he still managed Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood, according to Chris Bascombe.

The New Zealand international has enjoyed a stunning renaissance so far this season, scoring 11 goals in the Premier League, the joint-fifth best amount in the division while the Blues have struggled for goals.

The Blues boss worked with the 33-year-old at Burnley and the Forest striker scored the opening goal in the 2-0 loss at Goodison Park on Sunday (29 December).

Telegraph journalist Bascombe believes that Dyche will seek a similar profile to his former Clarets forward as his kind of profile would be perfect for the Toffees.

Everton need a proven goalscorer

The Blues need to sign a proven goalscorer in the January transfer window if they are to avoid being dragged into another brutal survival battle.

They sit 16th in the league, two points above the relegation zone with a game in hand on their fellow strugglers but that is against league leaders Liverpool.

The Toffees have scored just 15 goals so far this season, with only bottom-dwellers Southampton ranking below Dyche’s side with a measly 12 strikes and the underlying numbers make for terrifying reading, the Blues have the lowest expected goals created in the league with just 19.57. [Understat]

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have a combined three goals between them, with the last being the Guinea-Bissau forward’s strike against Fulham in a 1-1 draw on 26 October.

This has led to the Goodison Park club being linked with numerous attackers in the January window, such as Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, Rangers star Hamza Igamane and PSV’s Ricardo Pepi.

One thing is for sure, the Blues need to make a move for a striker in January otherwise they will be right in the middle of the relegation battle.
