AC Milan are ready to make a "big effort" to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton, according to CaughtOffside.

The outlet reported via their website on 5 January that sources have told them that the Serie A giants are keen to take advantage of the fact that they can open pre-contract talks with the striker this month to fend off competition from Newcastle and West Ham.

Calvert-Lewin, meanwhile, is in no rush to determine his future beyond the season, meaning the Goodison Park outfit could still convince him to sign a new contract, although he rejected their most recent proposal.

Having rejected Everton's most recent offer, Calvert-Lewin is increasingly likely to leave the club as a free agent when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

However, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the England international commits his future to the Merseyside-based club as new owners The Friedkin Group could be eyeing fresh talks with him.

The 27-year-old also had admirers in England in the shape of Newcastle and West Ham, who, unlike AC Milan and Fiorentina, might have to wait a little bit longer to see if they have any chance of acquiring his services.

Meanwhile, Calvert-Lewin's performances for Sean Dyche's side this season have left much to be desired, with the centre-forward only having two goals to show for his 19 Premier League appearances.

It is worth noting that Dyche has left the Englishman out of his starting line-up in each of the Toffees' last two games.

Whether an early transfer during this window is on the cards for the former Sheffield United man remains unclear.
