Kevin Thelwell exit sealed: Everton chief can pack his bags after Friedkin news

Everton sporting director Kevin Thelwell may have to pack his bags now after a new update about the plans of The Friedkin Group.

The 51-year-old’s future at Goodison Park is unclear after the takeover, with The Esk sharing confusion over reports he is sticking around (31 December).

That situation could become clearer in the coming days, after Josimar journalist Paul Brown shared (7 January) that Dan Friedkin has considered a double swoop for Graham Potter and Dan Ashworth.

The new owners could completely change the club’s fortunes if they pulled that sensational move off.

Everton should go for Ashworth

Thelwell and Sean Dyche had done a brilliant job guiding the Toffees through a hard time after points deductions and financial restrictions, but there comes a time to move on.

The director has managed to keep hold of the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin despite PSR issues but his recruitment record has been relatively poor and isn’t helping with progress.

However, the possible opportunity to hire Ashworth is too good to turn down for the Blues, they must do everything they can to entice him to Goodison Park.

He recently left Manchester United under a cloud but his spells with Brighton and Newcastle should provide the Friedkin’s with enough evidence of his ability.

The Toffees’ ability to lure the 53-year-old to the Blue side of Merseyside may hinge on whether they can convince Potter to join them instead of West Ham.

If they can secure both men, it would be a great start to the new era and a real coup for the new ownership at Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, the Blues are ready to move for an Aston Villa star on a permanent transfer.
