Everton new manager: Jose Mourinho ‘statement hire mooted by Simon Jordan

Simon Jordan has warned Everton that Jose Mourinho would not be the right appointment if Sean Dyche is sacked.

The Toffees boss has found himself under pressure with his side sitting just one point above the relegation zone and as a result, the Friedkin Group has held talks about succession planning.

Jose Mourinho has been linked with taking over at Goodison Park should Dyche lose his job.

However, speaking live on talkSPORT (9 January, 10:53am), Jordan warned against this appointment as he said: “I don’t know. I mean he’s not setting the heather on fire is he with where he is now?

“The brand of football, if that’s a complaint, I don’t see how that’s going to change with Mourinho because he’s not known for being the most exciting and attacking manager.

“It didn’t end brilliantly at Roma with him, I don’t know what the state of his relationship is with Dan Friedkin and his guys.

“I don’t see it because Mourinho normally likes to be in a situation where he has an opportunity to be cock of the walk and he’s not going to have that with Everton.

“It would certainly make a statement, I’m not sure what statement it would be making in terms of you’ve got one of the leading recognisable managers who was once upon a time arguably the best manager in world football, he’s not anymore. Times moved on, nothing lasts forever.

“I think he’s still a compelling individual and he’ll provide eyes on the prize and he’ll get the media at it and he’ll get certain aspects of Everton at it and then he’ll probably bring his usual brand of disruption because he won’t be able to get what he wants, when he wants it, how he wants it and Everton will struggle.

“I don’t think it’s the right appointment for them, I don’t think it’s probably the right appointment for Mourinho.”

Everton should steer clear of Jose Mourinho

It’s not a surprise that Mourinho is being talked about and exciting some supporters because he is a big name and surely an appointment would be reflective of the new era at Goodison under new owners.

However, as Jordan points out, with the style of football a concern in Merseyside this term, Mourinho is not a name you’d immediately jump at as someone to solve these issues.

Furthermore, despite having previously worked under TFG at Roma, Mourinho’s tenure in Italy didn’t come to the best end which could make this a difficult working relationship too.

While it is easy to get carried away after a takeover and go for the big names, the Blues may be best to reign in their reach and think about a long-term plan.

If Dyche does lose his job at Goodison, the Toffees could certainly do worse than appointing an up and coming manager and creating a new era at the club.
