Sean Dyche sack: Everton players react with appointment update

Everton players believed that Sean Dyche would be sacked days before it happened, according to Joe Thomas.

The Liverpool Echo reporter shared on X (9 January) that some players could tell that the former Burnley man was set to depart the Blues due to his recent demeanour.

Thomas states that the 53-year-old was sacked by the Goodison Park club after telling the Friedkin Group that he thought he had taken the club as far as he could.

The search for his replacement starts immediately and Thomas believes that a new manager could be appointed by the Aston Villa match on 15 January.

Everton needed to sack Dyche after the recent run

The writing was on the wall for Dyche after the crushing and boring 1-0 away loss to Bournemouth on 4 January.

His Blues side have struggled since the 4-0 win over Wolves on 4 December, failing to win in their next five Premier League matches.

That has left them just a point above the relegation zone in 16th place in the Premier League, set for another brutal survival battle.

The Friedkin Group had no choice but to make the decision despite backing Dyche in the immediate aftermath of the takeover, after his frank admission.

Attention now turns to the succession process with a big decision on who takes over from the former Burnley man that could doom the club if it is the wrong appointment.

The last thing that the Toffees need is to move into the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in the Championship, so they must appoint the right man and steer clear of the drop zone.
