Everton hit stumbling blocks in bid to re-hire David Moyes as terms revealed

David Moyes does not want a short-term contract if he is to return to Everton, according to Alan Nixon.

Writing via his Patreon page on Friday (10 January), the newspaper journalist reported that the Blues have opened talks to re-hire the 61-year-old after sacking Sean Dyche on Thursday (9 January).

It is understood that Moyes wants a contract of at least two-and-a-half years if he is to agree a deal with The Friedkin Group, who bought Farhad Moshiri out of Goodison Park last month.

Moyes is reportedly TFG’s first choice for manager and while the Scot is open to a return to Goodison in its final season before the move to Bramley-Moore Dock, he won’t be keen on a contract that only lasts until the summer, even if there’s a big bonus involved.

Who will be the next Everton manager?

As it stands, Moyes seems to be the only manager in contention to replace Dyche in the Everton hot seat.

Almost 12 years after leaving Merseyside for Manchester United, the Glaswegian looks like he’s heading back to Merseyside for Goodison’s swan song.

Moyes’ managerial career since Everton has seen him take charge at Man United, Real Sociedad and West Ham twice, where he won the Europa Conference League in a second stint that only ended last year.

Everton are in trouble in the Premier League. They need someone who’s capable of steadying the ship and diverting it in the right direction.

Moyes did that with West Ham in 2019/20 so we’re sure he can do it with Everton as well.

But it’s not right to just expect him to come in and keep the club up without any assurances that he’ll be there at the club next season.

Moyes deserves a contract that will trigger an extension into next season and beyond if he’s able to keep the Toffees in the Premier League.
