Sean Dyche sack: David Moyes might have now rethink on Everton manager job

Andy Dunn has suggested that the Everton performance against Peterborough may have put David Moyes off the managerial vacancy at Goodison Park.

After the sacking of Sean Dyche hours before the FA Cup tie, Moyes is one name that has been heavily linked to the Toffees with Graeme Bailey reporting that a deal to return to Merseyside has been agreed [9 January].

The Blues started off life without Dyche with a 2-0 win against Peterborough on Thursday (9 January) and while Everton had more chances, it was not an inspiring performance with fairly equal possession between the two sides.

Writing in The Daily Mirror (10 January, page 58), Dunn suggested that the performance could cause Moyes to rethink any agreement as he said: “If David Moyes watched this tie, he might think again about making a return to Merseyside.

“The expected successor to Sean Dyche in the Goodison Park hot-seat will have an FA Cup fourth-round clash to contend with later this month.

“But this was hardly a performance to stir Blue blood just hours after Dyche departed.”

David Moyes set for Everton return?

With the sudden departure of Dyche from Everton, it’s not a big surprise that it wasn’t the Toffees’ best performance against League One Peterborough but the Blues got the job done well enough which is all supporters could have asked for in the circumstances.

Moyes could be the appointment that is needed at Goodison to get things going again as the Scotsman is associated with better times at Merseyside and highly regarded by many meaning he could surely ramp up the spirit at the club.

There is a risk going back to something that has already been but the Blues need a change fast and if a deal has been agreed with the 61-year-old, this shows how crucial the Friedkin Group view progression.

The performance against Peterborough will surely have given a potential new manager food for thought with early signs of what needs to be done to drastically improve circumstances with the Toffees.
