David Moyes ‘contract guarantee’ detailed by former Goodison ally

Bryan King claims David Moyes would have wanted a guarantee that he would have complete control of the playing side of things at Everton.

The ex-Goodison scout, who worked with Moyes on Merseyside during the 61-year-old’s first stint in charge of the Toffees, claimed that the Scotsman would accept an Everton return weeks before an announcement was made.

Goodison Park will no doubt be rocking for Moyes’ first game back in charge against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday (15 January) after what the new Everton boss said recently.

And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – has speculated what kind of discussions might have taken place behind the scenes ahead of the manager’s return.

“If you want the club run properly, Moyes is your man,” King said.

“He knows the football club, he knows the people. I worked with him there for six years and I enjoyed working with him. Things have changed since I was there. We had to bring in players for relatively small fees, who were later sold on for bigger fees, which we did with the likes of John Stones.

“That is the way Moyes and the scouting department we had then had to work, because we didn’t have big money. I say good luck to Moyes, he loves Everton that is for sure. In terms of coming back to the club, he would have wanted a decent contract, that is for sure, and a guarantee that the playing side of things would be run by him.

“The standard of players that have come in throughout recent years hasn’t been good enough, Moyes will improve that, and I’ll tell you now, if there has been a lack of discipline at Everton, there won’t be with Moyes around, he’s old school.”

The Friedkin Group offer David Moyes guarantees at Everton?

Supporters will no doubt be excited for Moyes’ homecoming at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

However, as soon as the first whistle blows, that excitement will quickly turn to expectation, and fans will no doubt want to see clear signs that the club are beginning to move in the right direction.

Moyes is a big name on Merseyside, and his return to the club has been met with a lot of praise.

However, there is a lot of work for the Everton boss to do if he wants to turn things around at Goodison Park.
