Everton did a "brilliant" job in appointing David Moyes as manager, Barry Ferguson says.

The pundit believes the Scottish manager is the right fit for the Toffees after they sacked Sean Dyche due to poor results in the first half of the season.

Ferguson thinks the 61-year-old head coach can keep them in the Premier League, with the Blues just one point above the relegation zone.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (13 January), the former Rangers midfielder said: "I think he's a top manager. A brilliant manager. I think it's a brilliant piece from Everton to bring him in. They're obviously struggling.

"I think they're one point off relegation. No doubt in my mind that he'll climb them up the table, and they'll go into the next season still in the Premier League. And into their new stadium, which looks out of this world.

"I'm not surprised. He's only been out six months. It was just a matter of time, in my opinion, you get a big job again."

David Moyes return massive for Everton in relegation fight

Moyes is no stranger to surroundings at Goodison Park, having spent 12 years in Merseyside before moving to Manchester United.

The Scottish manager is also familiar with helping teams during a relegation scrap, surviving the drop with West Ham United a few years back.

While the 61-year-old's reputation had taken a hit after his stint at Old Trafford, the Europa Conference League title victory at the Hammers has changed things.

Everton needed someone with experience in the English top flight after sacking Dyche, and there seems to be no better option than Moyes.

The Scottish manager will be tasked with ensuring the Toffees' safety in their final season at Goodison Park.

Fans are glad to see the back of Dyche after some abysmal performances under him, and while Moyes isn't the most attack-minded manager, the supporters are glad he's back.

The 61-year-old's short-term goal is to keep the Merseyside outfit in the Premier League, hoping for better things in the foreseeable future.
