Dominic Calvert-Lewin transfer: Moyes update emerges before Everton exit

Newcastle are keeping a close eye on Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the winter transfer window, according to The Chronicle.

The newspaper reports in its print edition (14 January, pg 44) that Eddie Howe must wait to see where the striker falls in the plans of David Moyes, following his appointment.

Howe is said to be a fan of the England international, who shares the same agent, with the Magpies looking for serious depth behind Alexander Isak.

Despite that, Calvert-Lewin is not said to be a dream signing and Newcastle could wait to see if he runs down his contract for a free summer transfer instead.

David Moyes to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

Moyes immediately spoke about the striker in his first media briefing since returning to the club, saying he is the one who can make the difference.

That isn’t the talk of a manager who is willing to open the exit door in the next couple of weeks.

With West Ham also said to be interested though, there are strong Premier League clubs potentially starting to form a queue ahead of the summer.

The Friedkin Group are going to have to make a decision soon, let him go for nothing or push to get new terms signed and agreed.

A new contract and the backing of new owners and Moyes could be all that Calvert-Lewin needs to find his scoring form again at Goodison Park.

With key games against Aston Villa, Tottenham and Brighton coming up, the new manager will need all of his stars firing, with Calvert-Lewin likely to be the main man again.

His future will be a boiling topic between now and 3 February, that’s for sure.
