Southampton set to hire chief who was wrapped up in Everton-777 Partners fiasco
Everton might be familiar with the figure set to be announced as Southampton’s technical director due to links with 777 Partners.
According to Sky Sports, Johannes Spors’ primary job at St Mary’s Stadium will be looking after the Saints, with the appointment subject to him being granted a work permit.
The 42-year-old is currently the global sporting director for 777 Group, who were close to purchasing the Toffees last June before a deal with Farhad Moshiri collapsed.
The Friedkin Group have now taken over as owners at Goodison Park, already making a good impression with the passionate supporters, leaving the majority relieved that a deal fell through with 777.
That is mainly because of all the drama emerging after a deal collapsed dramatically last season, though that did not stop Spors from travelling to Merseyside and meeting then-manager Sean Dyche [The Telegraph].
Johannes Spors ready to quit 777 hell after Everton takeover collapse
Of course, Spors would not have known what was to come in the future with the 777 Group, with 777 Partners needing to sell all their football assets due to bankruptcy [Sports Business Journal].
The Miami-based firm also owned Standard Liege, and while the players and staff were still paid, no money would be transferred to 777 Partners as Liege shareholders continued to put pressure on the firm [RTBF].
After all that drama with the American firm, Spors finally looks to be sealing his escape and joining the current whirlwind of a club in Southampton, who are battling to stay in the Premier League.

The Saints are certainly one of the clubs currently attempting to push the Toffees into the relegation zone while moving up the table at St Mary’s Stadium.
Spors is unlikely to have had much influence on anything outside of meeting Dyche all those months ago, but his appointment will bring back bad memories for some Everton fans.
