Everton player makes fan admission after David Moyes appointment

Asmir Begovic admits he does not expect David Moyes to be overwhelmed by the expectations of supporters following his return to Everton.

With the Toffees battling at the wrong end of the Premier League table, the Friedkin Group made the decision to sack Sean Dyche with the team just one point above the relegation zone.

After 12 years away from Merseyside, Moyes has returned in the hope that he can keep the Blues in the top flight this term before looking to consistently improve their standing in the Premier League.

Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast (21 January, 15:37), Begovic praised the return of the Scotsman and thinks that given his history with the Toffees he will be familiar with the “specific” nature of the fanbase.

He said: “Having the new manager come in, with his experience and, of course, his stature at the club, it’s been a good boost.

“I think just his familiarity with the club, Everton’s very specific. The expectation of the fans is not going to overwhelm him, he’s not going to be surprised by it.

“He knows the Premier League inside out, so again I think it’s a very smart appointment.”

David Moyes can be Everton saviour

There is plenty of work to be done at Goodison Park in the remainder of the campaign and despite a 3-2 victory against Tottenham on Sunday (19 January), the Toffees have to prove they have the ability to build upon this going forward.

As the goalkeeper says, by the time Dyche left Merseyside, there would have been a lot of fatigue around the club which is the opposite of what you want when you have a very real fight on your hands.

Therefore, the appointment of Moyes has already proved to be a positive in the way it has boosted morale around Goodison and it was clear to see the squad were playing with a lot more confidence when they faced Spurs.

If the 61-year-old can secure survival this term, Blues fans will no doubt be looking ahead to life in a new stadium with a more positive view than the last few seasons.
