Carlos Alcaraz to jet in for Everton medical as transfer clause emerges

Carlos Alcaraz will jet into England on Saturday to complete his medical and sign for Everton, according to Eduardo Burgos.

The Diario AS journalist posted on X that as the Blues close in on Alcaraz from Flamengo, he’ll sign on loan with a mandatory purchase option if he plays a certain number of matches.

An agreement between the two clubs has already been “closed” [Fabrizio Romano, 31 January], with Flamengo set to recover the £16.7million fee they paid to Southampton last summer, as Alcaraz prepares to fly into Finch Farm on 1 February.

Alcaraz returning to England just six months after departing for Southampton is yet another twist in an already-storied career for the 22-year-old, who has already plied his trade in four countries.

Signing from Racing Club in his native Argentina for Southampton ahead of their relegation in 2023, Alcaraz has since spent time on loan at Juventus in Serie A before moving to Flamengo last summer.

A return to England – and the Premier League with the Toffees – just six months later suggests that his ambition lies on European soil, and that’s where the Friedkin Group will hope their new club can end up.

Alcaraz will provide much-needed depth and impetus for David Moyes’ side in the final third of the pitch, something which the Blues have sorely lacked all season amid a dearth of forward options.

Moyes will still be on the hunt for strikers in the final three days of the transfer window after injuries to Armando Broja and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but at least the Scot now has the number 10 role covered.
