Flamengo director speaks out on Alcaraz deal as Everton bid accepted
Carlos Alcaraz did not fit into the style of play at Flamengo which is why the Brazilians accommodated his move to Everton, according to Jose Boto.
The Flamengo technical director made the admission on their record signing, who only arrived five months ago from Southampton, and will join the Toffees on loan with an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met.
Midfielder Alcaraz played only 19 games in Brazil, scoring three goals and claiming two assists, and will now return to the Premier League as he is cast aside by his club.
“The decision to negotiate Alcaraz was made after a detailed analysis, considering both the vision of the coaching staff and the interests of the club,” Boto said as quoted by Goal.com (31 January).
“He is a great player, but within the game model adopted, we understand that he would have few opportunities to play his best football.
“The negotiation guarantees a good opportunity for the [player] to continue his career with more prominence and, at the same time, respects the club’s financial and sporting strategy.”
Everton signing Alcaraz given brutal Flamengo honesty
Alcaraz has been rapidly dispensed with by Flamengo, whose supporters greeted the Argentine with great excitement when he arrived from England last summer.
The midfield man had recently spent a loan stint with Italian giants Juventus and had signed a five-year contract in Brazil, but it has been quickly decided he does not fit into the ethos of the way they wish to play.
What appears a hasty and short-sighted decision – which may or may not have another motive attached – will hopefully benefit Everton from their own perspective, having now made their first signing of the winter transfer window at long last.

David Moyes is still prioritising a striker at Goodison Park as he, Kevin Thelwell and the Friedkins work hard behind the scenes to get business arranged before Monday night’s deadline (3 February).
Moyes admitted in the week that PSR constraints are not helping his side complete deals, with Alcaraz’s loan-to-buy clause helping seal the move – which is so far yet to be formally announced on Everton’s side despite Flamengo’s transparency.
In other Everton news, reports emerge of an AC Milan forward being offered to Moyes.
