Everton arrival Carlos Alcaraz is returning to England to "conquer the Premier League" after The Friedkin Group secured his signing, according to Diario AS.

The Brazilian website claimed (31 January) that Alcaraz was an "old target" for Everton in 2022 under the previous regime, before he arrived in the Premier League with Southampton, but the financial situation at Goodison Park put the brakes on any deal materialising.

The Argentine midfielder stayed for a year on the South Coast before joining Juventus on loan and last summer moved to Flamengo, and has now been captured as the first winter signing under TFG and David Moyes.

Alcaraz will join the Toffees on loan until the end of the season (Eduardo Burgos, 1 February), a switch which will become permanent should certain conditions be met this term.

Everton make first move with Carlos Alcaraz

Everton may be in dire need of a striker but will not be turning down a loan-to-buy deal on a talented midfield player with a promising age profile who can provide excellent competition.

Alcaraz himself will be looking to potentially prove himself long-term in the Premier League having stayed for just a year in England previously, suffering relegation in the process.

Moyes has admitted PSR constraints are making it difficult for the Toffees to shop in the market they want, but the manager has been in the game long enough to - alongside the Goodison hierarchy - pull off another astute deal or two.

Players could also be on their way out of Merseyside between now and 11pm on 3 February, and potentially even after that with deadlines varying across the globe.

But in terms of incomings, Everton appear a far more attractive proposition with a project offered to them by a focused, ruthless ownership in TFG, and a manager in Moyes who can sell the identity and culture of the club as well as anyone.
