Kevin Thelwell to ‘wrap up three new signings’ after ‘tricky’ Everton news

Everton must sign “two or three” more players before Monday’s transfer deadline as the recent upturn in form must be sustained, according to Ian Darke.

The Toffees face Leicester City on Saturday afternoon (1 February) having won successive Premier League games under David Moyes, but the manager alongside Kevin Thelwell and the Friedkins is hastily attempting to secure new faces.

Carlos Alcaraz will soon be formally unveiled after his Brazilian side Flamengo revealed (31 January) the midfielder will move to Goodison Park on a loan-to-buy deal.

Darke, speaking exclusively to Goodison News, is concerned with recent injury news however and insisted the Blues’ hierarchy get acquisitions sorted before the window slams shut (3 February).

“The six points they got [versus Tottenham and Brighton] are huge because now they look in a much healthier position,” he said.

“They’re starting to look a bit better in front of goal and kept a good clean sheet against Brighton.

“The news with McNeil and Mangala is tricky to deal with, and we’re not sure on Calvert-Lewin. I’m pretty sure they’re going to want two or three in before the deadline.”

Everton prioritising striker hunt

Everton’s main objective is undoubtedly a striker, with Calvert-Lewin’s injury uncertain and issues keeping Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti on the sidelines.

Beto may not even be a Toffees player in 48 hours’ time, but is the only striker in Moyes’ squad definitely fit to start matches.

It is expected to be a busy few days at Finch Farm and on the blue half of Merseyside to ensure a roster capable of survival is established for Moyes to work with.

In other Everton news, a Manchester United defender could become available with the Toffees interested.
