Ashley Williams rips into ‘Woeful’ Everton v Leicester moment he saw
Ashley Williams has ripped into the “woeful” defending from Leicester pair Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard after they were forced “wide open” by Everton on Saturday.
The Toffees left Goodison Park with all three points to their name after a 4-0 win against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men on 1 February and found themselves moving up the Premier League table to 15th place.
Speaking live on BBC Final Score (1 February), former Everton defender Williams shared his thoughts on the Foxes’ defending.
“I can’t mention that without mentioning how poor Leicester have been,” he said.
“Again the defending is so woeful, it’s one straight pass, straight between the centre-backs, I haven’t seen defending this bad between two centre-halves for a long time, honestly. Wout Faes and Vestergaard are just wide open.”
Everton are finally getting back on track in the Premier League
David Moyes has been the breath of fresh air that was needed at Goodison Park to turn things around.
Since the start of the 2024/25 season, it felt like the Toffees had no chance of avoiding a Premier League relegation battle but with their recent form under the Scotsman, they’ve already started to make their way up the table.
Which, when the amount of injuries they’ve suffered is taken into consideration, is a pretty impressive feat.
The Merseyside outfit only have one fit natural striker among their ranks at the moment which in itself is a fairly difficult challenge for them to face.

As long as they can keep their current run of form up until the end of the season, or at least for the next few games, it feels like the Toffees could find themselves more than safe from the drop.
There are still three days left of the winter transfer window and if Moyes can find a couple of new faces to add to his ranks, everything should start to fall in place.
