Everton in hunt to sign Tommy Watson amid Sunderland transfer news

Everton have joined the race to sign talented Sunderland winger Tommy Watson ahead of Monday night’s transfer deadline, according to Graeme Bailey.

Bailey, speaking to Everton News (2 February), claims that Everton are keen on signing Watson who has been lauded as “powerful” by Regis Le Bris [BBC Sport].

The Toffees have lacked wide depth this season and Watson has been identified by Everton as a potential target with just 18 months remaining on his Sunderland contract.

At 18 years old, Watson has already broken into the first team, earning interest from several Premier League clubs but as it stands, Sunderland want to keep him until at least the summer.

Everton to sign Tommy Watson?

When it comes to acquiring the best young talent in the country, the Championship is often the go-to place and Watson is just one of several top-quality youngsters thriving in England’s second division.

Just one of several at Sunderland for that matter, who have built their team around their young players and instilled plenty of trust in them to go and deliver on the pitch which up to now, has worked a treat.

Having scored a brace against Stoke City, Watson has earned rave reviews on Wearside and his potential is evident and with the right club and necessary room to develop, he could go to the very top.

With David Moyes back on Merseyside, the rebuild of Everton is underway and there may be a turn of focus to attracting the best young talent England has to offer in a bid to strengthen the future of the club both on the pitch and financially.
