Sky Sports reveal shock twist in Alcaraz-Everton transfer as medical underway

Flamengo midfielder Carlos Alcaraz is undergoing a medical with Everton, according to Sky Sports News.

As reported by Alan Myers via Sky Sports’ live transfer centre (12:35 pm, 2 February), Alcaraz is set to join the Toffees on loan from Flamengo, with a deal expected to be complete within the next 24 hours [via the Daily Mail, 2 February].

However, in a twist, Myers reports that the loan deal includes an option to make the midfielder’s transfer to Goodison Park permanent. This is despite Flamengo stating via the club’s official website (31 January), that the loan agreement “includes a mandatory purchase clause subject to the fulfilment of goals established between the parties.”

Carlos Alcaraz transfer twist at Everton

This has been one of the most confusing transfer sagas in recent times. Therefore, it is no surprise that yet another twist has emerged in the tail, even this late on in proceedings.

First and foremost, it seems as though David Moyes’ side are set to land their man, with Alcaraz undergoing his medical, which is good news. However, it appears as though there is plenty of confusion about the terms of the transfer.

While that won’t matter for now, as all that matters is that Moyes will have another midfielder in the squad between now and the end of the season, fans will likely no doubt still want some clarity.

It seems as though Alcaraz was forced out of Flamengo [via O Globo, 1 February], and it is unlikely that he would therefore want to return to Brazil.

However, whether or not he remains on Merseyside beyond the end of the season remains to be seen.
