Everton now in hunt for late striker signing after Alcaraz deal ‘done’

Everton have completed their move for Carlos Alcaraz with the deal now “done” as the Toffees now focus on signing a striker, according to Graeme Bailey.

The TBR Football journalist reported on X (3 February) that David Moyes’ side are now looking to add to their attacking arsenal following their move for Alcaraz, who returns to England having initially joined Flamengo from Southampton.

The 22-year-old midfielder moves to Goodison Park just six months into a five-year contract in Brazil with Flamengo having announced his exit on Friday (31 January), as the Toffees now chase another arrival.

It appears that backroom staff at Finch Farm are not too hopeful due to a lack of quality active in the market for strikers (Daily Mail, 3 February), but efforts look to be continued.

“Told that Everton’s move for Carlos Alcaraz is done – he moves back to England on-loan from Flamengo which includes an obligation if he plays a certain amount of games,” Bailey posted.

“Everton also still in the market for another striker.”

Everton want striker deal before 11pm deadline

Everton have improved their goalscoring form of late under Moyes, firing eight times in three league games having scored just 15 in 20 prior this season.

However, the recently-appointed Blues boss remains far from blessed with forward options – Dominic Calvert-Lewin has only scored three times this term and is out of contract this summer, while Beto could still leave before the deadline with interest from Italy and now Spain (Mateo Gonzalez, 3 February).

As a result, Everton are still surveying the market in the hope that a surprise can be sprung with the deadline slamming shut at 11pm.

As of late afternoon on Monday (3 February), there are yet to have been any arrivals or departures confirmed although Alcaraz is imminent, which would be likely to trigger the loan departure of 18-year-old Harrison Armstrong to Derby County (Sky Sports, 3 February).

Everton could still leave fans stunned if they pull off a terrific last-gasp deal, but the clock is ticking and the chances are becoming slimmer.
