Kevin Thelwell eyes last-gasp striker transfer in Everton deadline day update

David Moyes and Kevin Thelwell are still working hard to bring in a new striker to Everton before the window closes, according to The Mirror.

The newspaper reported via its live blog [3 February] that, with Carlos Alcaraz’s transfer expected to be confirmed in the coming hours, the duo are looking at bringing in another attacker.

Options for loans and permanent deals are being searched through at Goodison Park, but with the clocking ticking, the Merseysiders are running out of time to do business before the 11pm deadline.

Everton to secure new striker signing before 11pm deadline?

It is rather unclear what the Toffees’ plans are for the final few hours of the transfer window, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja sidelined with new injuries.

Leaving Beto as a lone striker would have been a scary prospect just a few weeks ago, but with Moyes’ era fully underway, the Portugal-born ace has sparked to life on Merseyside.

His recent brace helped the Toffees to an incredible 4-0 victory over Leicester City, with goals also coming from Iliman Ndiaye and Abdoulaye Doucoure, boosting the club nine points above the dropzone.

Of course, Moyes would much rather have a full squad to work with, but with the injured duo likely to return within weeks, it seems being patient is a much more sensible idea for the new manager.

The Toffees have now netted eight goals in their last three games, quickly getting over their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa last month, so there should be no panic to bring a new striker in right now.

Given the club’s current financial situation, dancing with PSR, splashing cash on an inexperienced forward would not be the most sensible of ideas from the new owners if they are to avoid further punishment from the Premier League.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have submitted a £15million bid to sign a forward, with the club responding immediately.
