Finance expert shares ‘huge’ Everton admission ahead of summer transfer window

Everton were linked with several players throughout the winter transfer window but Carlos Alcaraz was the only one to arrive.

The Argentine’s arrival was rather unexpected with no journalist knowing about the Toffees’ interest until Flamengo announced the former Southampton man had made the move.

However, it was hardly surprising to see Everton make just one addition in the winter window due to their issues with the Premier League’s PSR rules.

Kieran Maguire believes the summer could be ‘huge’ for Everton

After their quiet winter window, finance expert Kieran Maguire believes the upcoming summer transfer window could be “huge” for the Merseyside outfit.

Everton will be moving into their new Bramley Moore-Dock stadium at the start of next term which Maguire believes should increase the Toffees’ revenue by between “100 and 150 per cent”.

“The 2025-26 season will be a huge season for the club,” he said to the BBC Sport website (6 February).

“There is potentially a new set of rules coming in season as well and that will link a club’s spending to their ability to generate revenue.

“Bramley-Moore Dock should increase the matchday revenue by 100-150% because at the moment Everton are making less than one million pounds a match at Goodison Park.

“That will be a positive and it also looks like the new rules will be assessed in a one-season policy. That means the legacy problems that have arisen at Everton, which are probably best associated with the previous regime, where they have spent a lot of money unwisely and been shackled into overspending should be released.

“There is still work to be done but if they can secure a naming right deal, sell hospitality boxes at the going rate, then there will be more positives for spending.”

The Friedkin Group have a fair few big decisions to make over the next six months

The last few seasons have likely been torturous for Everton and their fans with their constant PSR woes often getting in the way of their progress.

While the Merseyside outfit only have themselves to blame for the amount of money they’ve spent on players in the past, with the Friedkin Group now at the helm, it feels like they’re in a much better place than they were at the start of the season.

While things seemed to be coasting under Sean Dyche with the Toffees seeming to be on a one-way street towards relegation from the top flight, David Moyes’ arrival has ended up being the exact breath of fresh air that the Merseyside outfit needed.

The fact that Maguire believes Everton’s revenue could increase by around 100 to 150 per cent is extraordinary and outlines that the future could genuinely be very bright for Moyes and his men.

At the moment, it still feels unclear how things are going to pan out in the blue half of Merseyside.

But, if they can manage to retain their Premier League status this season as well as spend a fair amount on improvements in the summer, it’s hard to see how they won’t be able to make their way back into the top half of the table.

Which, at the end of the day is all that fans really want, especially after the turmoil they’ve been through over the last few seasons.
