Paul Merson stuns after what he said about Everton v Bournemouth live on air

Paul Merson left Simon Thomas stunned on Sky Sports after what he said about Everton against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Blues were hoping the progress into the FA Cup fifth round at Goodison Park (8 February) but the Cherries had the first chance, as the home side went into break 2-0 down.

Just seven seconds into the contest, Marcus Tavernier had an attempt blocked by James Tarkowski as Andoni Iraola’s side looked to better the Blues’ early going against Leicester.

In the 4-0 win against the Foxes (1 February), Beto struck the first goal after ten seconds as the Toffees brushed Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s team aside.

Paul Merson makes stunning Everton claim

The former Arsenal man made a stunning claim about the contest less than a minute in after that early Cherries chance, which left him wowed.

Speaking on Sky Sports (8 February, 15:01 pm), Merson said: “What was it last week ten seconds, that would have been blown out of the water today by Bournemouth?

“They literally kicked off, passed it back to Christie, put a long ball down the middle, it hit the centre forward, fell to Tavernier, middle of the goal about 15 yards out, hits it well, and it’s a brilliant block by Tarkowski.

“It must have been six or seven seconds tops.”

Thomas responded saying: “Goodness me.”

Everton need to turn it around v Bournemouth

With the Blues sitting nine points above the relegation zone there was a real chance for them to go on a decent run in the FA Cup.

David Moyes‘ return to Goodison Park has given the Toffees a new lease of life and has seen them record three successive victories in the Premier League against Tottenham, Brighton, and Leicester.

However, if they are to continue their winning run and progress to the next round, they will need to turn around a 2-0 deficit in the second half after Antoine Semenyo’s penalty gave the visitors the lead and Daniel Jebbison extended it.

The Blues will be confident that they can overcome the South Coast outfit given their impressive recent form since Moyes made his comeback but the Cherries have beaten the Merseysiders on the last three occasions that they have come up against each other.

The Goodison Park outfit have not won a trophy since winning the same competition in 1995 with a win over Manchester United in the final but if they can beat Bournemouth then they will believe that they can beat anyone given the fact that the visitors lost for the first time since 23 November last Saturday.

If they can negotiate a route to the Wembley showcase in May, it would be the perfect start to the Firedkin era and it will also embarrass Jamie Carragher, who predicted them to exit the cup.

However, it looks more likely that the former Liverpool man will be correct and the Blues will exit the cup at the moment.
