Moyes pulled plug on Batshuayi deal after what Everton boss was told

Everton wanted to sign a striker during the winter but David Moyes opted against signing one ace after reports emerged.

The Toffees are certainly light in the number nine position after injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja.

This leaves the L4 club with Beto as their only fit striker available as Youssef Chermiti also continues his lengthy spell on the sidelines.

As a result, an addition during the latest window would have made sense but one option was turned down by the Scottish head coach at Goodison.

David Moyes turned down Michy Batshuayi deal at Everton

The former Manchester United boss was identifying potential signings during the winter with Michy Batshuayi reviewed on Merseyside, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist reported to his Patreon on 9 February that background checks were made on the 31-year-old ahead of a potential loan swoop.

Reports were not enough to convince Moyes to bring the Belgium international in on a temporary deal until the end of the season.

Instead, the ex-Chelsea striker made a move away from Galatasaray to join Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent basis.

Everton better off without Michy Batshuayi

There is no doubt that a top striker signing would have been well-received in L4 during the winter window.

With Calvert-Lewin eyeing a summer move away and Beto yet to truly hit the ground running, the injection of goals in the Toffees’s side wouldn’t go amiss.

With that being said, Batshuayi wouldn’t represent a guaranteed upgrade on what is already available on Merseyside and as a result, a move didn’t make sense.

It is certainly a positive to see Moyes and Co. turn down a deal, preferring to hold out until a later window to sign the right player rather than just the only available option.

The Scot has instead opted to back his Guinea-Bissau international forward who responded to that faith with a brace against Leicester City.

If the 27-year-old can keep up that form, the Toffees won’t regret missing out on Batshuayi no matter how he performs in Germany across the second half of the season.
