David Moyes twist emerges in Kevin Thelwell Everton exit

David Moyes may have played a role in Kevin Thelwell leaving Everton at the end of his contract this summer.

The Friedkin Group (TFG) and Thewell will part ways at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen what structure will be in place after.

The Toffees’ director of football doesn’t have the best of reputations among the supporters due to some questionable sporting decisions, especially under Farhad Moshiri.

Thelwell was responsible for bringing Armnado Broja to Goodison Park, but the Albanian striker has disappointed since his loan move from Chelsea.

Everton recruitment control wanted by Moyes as Thewell set to depart

Moyes may want to take primary responsibility for recruiting first-team players at the Merseyside outfit, The Esk says.

The forensic analyst believes the Scottish manager could be in line to take charge of the Toffees’ signings in the coming future.

It has also been suggested that Thelwell potentially didn’t fit the Blues’ plans as TFG eye a different direction.

Speaking on Talking the Blues Podcast (transcribed on 3 March), The Esk said: “I think Moyes wants primary responsibility for recruiting for the first team. And I think given his record of the past, his track record of the past, that’s warranted and deserved.

“And secondly, I think under the new ownership, perhaps the club’s going in a different direction in terms of recruitment. Perhaps Thelwell didn’t fit that.”

TFG should hand Moyes the reigns

Moyes replaced Sean Dyche at Everton in January and has since been on a tear, leading them away from the relegation zone.

Under the former Burnley head coach, the Toffees had a realistic threat of going down, but safety seems all but confirmed now.

Moyes’s record in the Premier League since his return to Goodison has been commendable, with the Blues unbeaten in their last six fixtures.

The Merseyside outfit are 15 points ahead of 18th-place Ipswich Town, and it would take a monumental collapse to see them get relegated from this stage.

While Dyche failed to get the best out of the squad, the Scottish manager has worked wonders with them.

Beto seemed to be on his way out after underwhelming at the Toffees, but the Guinea-Bissau striker has turned things around in recent weeks.

Thelwell has seemingly been responsible for most of the signings at the Blues over the years, and while some deals have made sense, many have faltered.

It will be interesting to see how much influence Moyes will have on transfers this summer.
