Friedkins urged not to make ‘Crazy’ David Moyes sack call at Everton
David Moyes and The Friedkin Group are largely to thank for the fact Everton have plenty more time to plan ahead of next season.
Having been sleepwalking potentially towards relegation in the Moshiri Dyche era, the Toffees have long since avoided that drama and can prepare for Premier League football at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Moyes was doubted by some when he returned to Goodison Park following his initial 11-year stint, but has tapped into his unique understanding of the Blues to steer the ship firmly in the right direction.

Friedkins ‘crazy’ if they make Moyes victim of his own success
The Friedkin Group are ambitious and certainly aren’t shy.
TFG took over Roma five years ago and have since parted ways with managers such as Jose Mourinho, Daniele de Rossi and most recently Ivan Juric – the same man to have suffered his second sacking of 2024-25 with Southampton in the past few days.
Some have consequently debated whether Moyes could be in the firing line if he doesn’t meet potentially very speculative ambitions within the next year or two, namely replicating his previous achievements at reaching the European stage.
TV commentator Ian Darke, speaking exclusively to Goodison News, believes it would be “crazy” of the Friedkins to consider swapping Moyes for a perhaps more contemporary coach in the foreseeable future.
“If Moyes gets Everton to where he did in his first reign – in the top eight at challenging for Europe – then it would be crazy and self-defeating of the Friedkins to remove him at any point soon,” Darke said.
“They have been ruthless and shown what they want.
“You can never tell in football, it defies logic at times. Everton may be tempted to see what they can get, but if Moyes is delivering, they would be shooting themselves in the foot as far as I’m concerned.”

Everton face far tougher competition than in Moyes’ first reign
Moyes qualified Everton for Europe on four occasions during his first reign at Goodison before replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013.
Since the Scotsman’s initial exit, the Toffees have seen continental competition just twice, last in the 2017-18 season when they bowed out in the group stage of the Europa League when Wayne Rooney was back in blue.
Back in Moyes’ first spell, there was nowhere near the amount of inflation in the game we’re seeing today, with the financial sums becoming scarier as the seasons go on.
The Friedkin Group – managers sacked since January 2024 | Date |
Jose Mourinho (Roma) | January 2024 |
Daniele de Rossi (Roma) | September 2024 |
Ivan Juric (Roma) | November 2024 |
Sean Dyche (Everton) | January 2025 |
PSR has also now become stricter, and don’t Everton know it. To qualify for Europe within the next few years will be twice the challenge it had previously been.
However, should Moyes achieve the unthinkable, the Friedkins will merely sit back and applaud – partly giving themselves a pat on the back for the decision they made in January of this year.
