Sunderland urged to hire former Everton boss ahead of Championship playoffs

Sunderland have been told to sack Regis Le Bris after their wretched run of form and appoint a former Toffees manager.

Everton and Sunderland are two huge clubs that have both experienced more lows than highs over the past several seasons.

The Toffees’ season is essentially over, having secured Premier League survival weeks ago as a result of the progression made since the appointment of David Moyes.

As for Sunderland, Coventry City await them in the playoffs, but a winless run of six games, while suffering defeat in the last five, has piled pressure on their manager, Le Bris, and the Wearsiders seem keen on the idea of bringing a former Everton boss to the Stadium of Light.

Sean Dyche appointment wanted by Sunderland fans

Sean Dyche’s time at Everton ended very, very miserably, and had the Toffees not made the change when they did, there is a high chance that they could have been staring down the barrel of a Championship campaign themselves.

However, Dyche is a manager with serious experience in English football, and if we’re being honest, he did a good enough job at the start of his tenure at Goodison Park.

Quite frankly, it’s unlikely that he will be out of work for very long, and with Sunderland heading into the playoffs with negative momentum, their supporters have urged their side to sack Le Bris, with Dyche seen as a preference [Mackem News].

Overall, Evertonians will shiver at the thought of Dyche back in English management, given how close he led them to relegation.

Everton could face a Dyche side soon

It would be somewhat of a surprise if Dyche doesn’t make a return to management in the coming months, though it would be to see him drop down to the Championship, perhaps given his stubbornness that was on show on Merseyside.

While his tenure failed towards the end at Everton, Dyche typically knows how to get a side to cement their status in the Premier League, and it can’t be ruled out that a side with that ambition will make a move for him in the summer.
