‘Jake O’Brien’s future uncertain’ as Everton edge closer to transfer breakthrough

Jake O’Brien’s role as a regular starter at Everton under David Moyes may be in jeopardy.

Everton are already well underway in their search for summer reinforcements, and given the last few campaigns, it is imperative that they get it right.

Since Moyes took over, they have progressed massively, but that will be halted if the necessary decisions are not made in the coming months.

With that in mind, one of the decisions that has been made is the purchase of a new right-back, which could leave O’Brien questioning where his future lies.

Everton move closer to new right-back signing

Everton will be looking to bring plenty of quality through the door once the summer window arrives, and reports from Greece suggest they are edging closer to completing a deal to sign Panathinaikos right-back Georgios Vagiannidis.

The Greek defender is highly rated in his homeland, and with the likes of Brighton and PSV chasing his signature, he’s likely to come in and stake a claim for his place in the starting 11.

Throughout the season, O’Brien has been the go-to option for Moyes in that area of the pitch, and if Vagiannidis arrives, he may lose his place.

Now, the Irishman could be utilised as a centre back, or become backup to the new arrival, but it can’t be ruled out that the Toffees could look to part ways with him either on loan or permanently.

Moyes has a tough task on his hands this summer

Ultimately, it will be down to Moyes who comes in and who doesn’t, which will then leave him deciding over his best 11 for the new campaign.

Everton have regressed massively over the last few years, and only recently started to show signs of promise under his stewardship.

If that is to continue, he needs to be backed with players who can take this side to the next level, while also retaining the services of those currently at the club.
