Everton goalkeeper locked in talks to join club close to his heart

Everton are primed for a mass overhaul this summer as they prepare to move to their new home.

The Toffees will leave Goodison Park after 132 years for the Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

As part of the transition, a wealth of names are expected to leave the North West club, with several departures already confirmed.

Asmir Begovic in talks with new club ahead of Everton exit

It is a season of farewells for Everton football club. Firstly, the goodbye to their famous home, Goodison, where the Toffees have built so many memories with their supporters.

While scenes during the final game were emotional, the consensus is that the move is necessary for the club to progress.

As they move to their swanky 52,888-seater arena, the North West clubs can feel safe in the hands of David Moyes.

Seamus Coleman leads the list of players departing the Toffees, alongside Ashley Young, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and several more.

Another name who is set to leave is Asmir Begovic, whose contract will expire at the end of June.

Begovic has been limited in opportunities

It has been reported by Sportitalia journalist Lorenzo Lepore via X (22 May) that FK Sarajevo are internally exploring the possibility of signing the Bosnian as their new goalkeeper.

Contact is said to have already been made with the 37-year-old and talks are progressing.

Joining five-time Bosnian champions Sarajevo would be considered a personal move for Begovic, given he is from that country.

Everton must add competition for Jordan Pickford

The departure of Begovic is unsurprising given his age and lack of minutes.

Of course, he would have known his role as deputy, but an end-of-career switch to his home country makes complete sense.

Everton will likely take two possible avenues as they look to reinvest in a new goalkeeper.

Do they sign a profile similar to Begovic's? Or, do they take a fresh approach and sign a young and hungry shot-stopper?

While Pickford is the undisputed number one, the latter could be just the trick as the Toffees build for the future.

England's number one has not had real pressure on him for some time, and it is time for that to change.

This summer, it is out with the old and in with the new, and Everton must invest in upcoming talent.
