Everton ready approach to re-sign John Stones in stunning £250,000-a-week update

David Moyes could turn to John Stones this summer as he continues his rebuild at Everton.

As the Blues prepare for a move to Bramley-Moore Dock, the Scotsman is ready to oversee The Friedkin Group’s first proper transfer window as owners.

The new owners should provide the boss with more financial resources in the window, while also enabling the attraction of more ambitious players.

Everton weigh up Stones deal

As Everton prepare for the new season, one area where Moyes is keen to strengthen is defensively.

With interest in Jarrad Branthwaite from the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea continuing to swirl, the Toffees could be required to replace one of their stars.

With that in mind, it has been reported by the Sunday Mirror (1 June, page 70) that the Blues are ready to sound out the possibility of Stones returning to Merseyside.

The former Blue has just a year left on his contract at the Etihad, although currently earning £250,000 a week in wages, Stones would have to be prepared to take a pay cut to reunite with Moyes.

The report states, though, that Manchester City’s asking price is not set to be limiting and with the 2026 World Cup around the corner, minutes are set to matter.

Although his ability is not in question, there are concerns that the injury-struck defender could struggle with the demand of playing every three days with his current side, which could boost the possibilities of a move to Everton even further.

Everton should seek deal for Stones

As Everton look to embark on their new era, signing a player of high status such as Stones would surely be a big statement.

Stones is a well-decorated player.

While the defender may not be able to play at the same consistency that he previously showed in his career, his abilities are still clear and having that option in the side would be a boost.

Furthermore, as an experienced head, the 31-year-old would surely be a boost both on the field and in the dressing room.

The issue of wages could prove to be the biggest barrier to a deal being struck between the two sides, but if Stones wants a final international opportunity, game time next season will prove to be vital.
