Everton are on the verge of making a statement signing after a rather tame start to the transfer window.

Carlos Alcaraz is already through the Everton door after turning his loan deal from Flamengo into a permanent one.

Now it seems that Alcaraz will be joined by Thierno Barry, who's arrival at the Hill Dickinson Stadium is imminent.

The 22-year-old will arrive in high esteem as the financial details of the deal with Villareal have been revealed.

Now, the Frenchman is to swap Spain for England and open a new chapter for the Toffees at their 52,888-seater stadium.

Barry has practically secured a deal with Everton if there are no surprises, according to Superdeporte (4 July, page 12).

The Spanish outlet reports that the Merseyside club will pay £30.17million plus £4.31million in add-ons for the striker.

Adding the amount Villareal have acquired for Barry, as well as £34.48million for the departed Alex Baena, the Spanish outfit will earn close to £68million.

This means that the Europa League side can rebuild this summer and push for a Champions League spot next season.

Barry signs, but who could follow him to the Toffees?

Much of the talk on Merseyside has been about Everton making marquee signings to cement their move to a new stadium.

Man City duo Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker have been mooted, with both expected to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.

A deal for Walker feels more likely of the two, considering the competition and finances of a Grealish deal.

Elsewhere, Everton are interested in signing Alcaraz's former Flamengo teammate Wesley, although he could be immediately loaned out.

Whatever happens, the deal to sign Barry should signal further activity on Merseyside.
