‘David Moyes has clear transfer priority’ after James Tarkowski development

Everton have let their squad depth get dangerously thin, and there is plenty of work to do in the transfer window.

Abdoulaye Doucouré and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are just two of several first-team players who have left the Toffees. Therefore, replacements are needed this summer.

Everton are low on squad depth and will need to sign several players across a variety of positions before the Premier League season kicks off again.

David Moyes has a big job on his hands. However, he has now been handed a boost and a clearer idea of where his transfer priorities should lie.

James Tarkowski spotted in training

Everton have now been handed a boost as defender James Tarkowski has been spotted back in training.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo (July 5), Tarkowski has been pictured running on grass, with his teammates returning to pre-season training after their summer break.

The centre-back missed the end of the season with what was deemed to be a serious hamstring injury, which could have ruled him out for a lot longer.

However, Tarkowski appears ready to continue his recovery and feature in pre-season before the start of the Premier League campaign. As a result, that could now send a transfer message to Moyes.

Everton need to prioritise attacking additions

With Michael Keane, Seamus Coleman and Jarrad Branthwaite also signing new contracts, Everton’s defence now has the most depth out of the key areas in the squad.

Had Tarkowski been injured long-term, a centre-back or a versatile defender would have been high up the priority list ahead of the start of the season.

However, with Branthwaite and Tarkowski now set to start the new campaign, Everton can focus their squad building on attacking areas.

Thierno Barry is set to join from Villarreal, but more midfielders and wingers could be necessary to pad out the squad, and this should now be the focus over more defenders.

Everton will hope for an ambitious summer transfer window ahead of their move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and that more attacking players will follow Barry in.
