Done deal: Everton seal Ishikawa transfer as Friedkins splash cash

Everton Women have secured the signing of Rion Ishikawa.

The Toffees have been active so far in the transfer window, confirming deals for Rosa van Gool and Ornella Vignola as they look to build ahead of the new season.

Everton finished a lowly eighth last season in the WSL, but are preparing for their first year at Goodison Park as the men’s team move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Investment was a requirement this summer for the Merseysiders from the Friedkin Group, and the ownership was praised for their backing.

Everton confirm signing of Ishikawa from Urawa Red Diamonds

Ishikawa has arrived in England from the Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds, reuniting with her international teammate Honoka Hayashi.

The defender graduated from the JFA Academy Fukushima in 2022, before shining at the Under-20 World Cup as her country finished as runners-up.

Ishikawa then joined the senior side for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, before winning the SheBelieves Cup in 2025 alongside Hayashi.

Upon joining, Ishikawa told Everton.TV: “It is an honour to join the club as we enter this new historic chapter.

“Now that Goodison Park is our permanent home, we have to achieve strong results. I feel a special connection because I am joining Everton when the club is beginning a new era.”

Friedkin Group need to continue investment in crucial period

Everton are in one of the most critical periods in the club’s history, with both sides moving stadiums.

The Friedkin Group have made significant decisions across both teams so far, including the three signings made for the women in the window.

However, relocating stadiums can bring a settling-in period, and with the financial problems the Toffees have faced in recent years, the Merseysiders need stability and backing to avoid any unnecessary relegation battles.

Thierno Barry could be the next signing in Blue from Villarreal, with the Americans spending around £30million to get another deal over the line in Merseyside.

They are not messing around.
