Everton ‘to beat Man United to Douglas Luiz transfer’ after new approach

Everton have not undergone the substantial overhaul everyone was predicting yet, but it is still early days in the window.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin headlined the long list of Everton departures, with no fewer than eight players leaving as their contracts expired.

The North West club have not made many inroads in terms of acquisitions, with Carlos Alcaraz the sole permanent Everton signing.

Now, the Toffees have been linked with a move for former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, while Manchester United are also interested.

Luiz likely to leave Juventus as Everton ready transfer

Ironically, when Luiz departed the Premier League last summer, Everton suffered as Amadou Onana replaced him at Villa Park.

Now, the 27-year-old is primed for a remarkable return to England after a less-than-remarkable season in Italy.

While the Brazilian international performed admirably during his spell in the West Midlands, he has struggled for Juventus.

Last season, Luiz made just three league starts and struggled to adapt, while he missed a substantial number of games through injury.

Now, Everton have asked for information on Luiz, although no concrete offer has been made, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport (7 July, page 5).

The Italian newspaper reports that Manchester United and Fulham have also enquired about the central midfielder.

They add that the future of the Brazilian international is still to be decided, but he is unlikely to stay with the Old Lady.

Juventus manager Igor Tudor has not been convinced by the Italian club’s second-most-expensive signing; thus, he is available in the transfer market.

Luiz worth a punt if Toffees can agree reduced price

Now appears to be the perfect time to buy Luiz from a financial point of view.

The 27-year-old joined Juventus for £42.3million last summer, and his value has surely decreased after a forgettable campaign.

From a playing point of view, there are certainly concerns over whether Luiz can still perform at the highest level.

However, a return to the Premier League would be just the tonic for the midfielder to recapture his best form.

If David Moyes’ side can agree on a reduced fee, or even sign the Juve man on a loan deal, then Luiz would be worth a chance.
