Friedkins to deal with Textor as ‘Everton money will talk’ for transfer – Exclusive

Everton supporters will have been watching on smugly regarding the events that have unfolded around John Textor this summer.

The American very openly bid to take over from Farhad Moshiri, but caused a stir after making comments about Sean Dyche.

Textor is the owner of Brazilian club Botafogo, but has stepped back from day-to-day management at Lyon, while he sold his stake in Crystal Palace.

The Friedkin Group ended up acquiring Everton, but the Toffees and Textor are not done yet, judging from transfer developments.

Everton eye Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor amid Textor links

Everton have been linked with a move for goalkeeper John Victor as David Moyes aims to strengthen his squad.

Botafofo are said to want £10.3million for Victor, and football finance expert Dan Plumley has weighed in on the links while speaking exclusively to Goodison News.

“Well, football’s a small world, isn’t it?” he said.

“Sometimes you end up dealing with people, and it moves in pretty small circles, so if there is a bit of personal needle there, or a bit of animosity, then that, of course, is going to come into the boardroom and negotiations.

“We’re dealing with people at the end of the day, and egos play a huge part in it.

“Ultimately, money will talk, and that’ll be what will dictate it, but the Club World Cup is another factor within that.

“Botafogo will have taken a bit of money from that; that was a nice little bonus.

“That might mean that they don’t need to sell as much as they perhaps have done in the past.

“You can hang on to your assets, and there’s an up-and-coming market there, and then you’ve got the ownership piece over the top, and the personal relationship club to club.

“That’s part and parcel of any negotiation, but you are certainly dealing with individual motives as well within that, for sure.

“If you look at those relationships and the fact that that South American club has just benefited from a decent amount of money from the Club World Cup, then the price is likely to be increased for Everton being a Premier League club and John Textor knowing the backstory there as well.”

Toffees under no obligation to bow to Textor

While Botafogo are in a healthier financial position after the Club World Cup, the Toffees do not need to pay over the odds for Victor.

Everton have already signed Mark Travers and possess Jordan Pickford and Harry Tryer too, so they are not short of options.

Adding Victor would further bolster Moyes, but the Merseyside outfit must only pay the right price for the 29-year-old.

This one appears unlikely now, with other areas taking priority.
