Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz now appears a step closer to seal his exit, which is undoubtedly positive news for Everton.

David Moyes has identified Luiz as a potential target as he looks to bolster his midfield ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The Brazil international moved to Juventus last summer from Aston Villa, but has struggled in his new surroundings.

Luiz fails to show up as Juventus return for pre-season training

Juventus are expected to take action as their midfielder failed to show up for their return to pre-season, according to Gianluca Di Marzio (24 July).

It's understood that Luiz did not give an explanation about his absence and just did not show up on Thursday.

Luiz is wanted by the Toffees and West Ham and it remains to be seen if his future at the Serie A giants is now in doubt.

They could part ways with the midfielder for the right fee in this summer's transfer window.

Everton surely on red alert to sign Luiz

Everton will be on high alert as Luiz missed pre-season training, a classic sign of a player pushing for a transfer.

Luiz, heavily linked with a Premier League return, has attracted strong interest from the Merseyside outfit, who see the 27-year-old Brazilian as a key midfield addition following their recent signings.

His absence from Juventus’ camp suggests he’s forcing a move, with disciplinary action looming but an exit increasingly likely.

The Toffees must now act swiftly to negotiate personal terms and finalise a deal, especially with competition from other sides.

Luiz’s proven Premier League pedigree from his Aston Villa days, where he notched 20 goal contributions in 2023/24, makes him a prime target for Moyes’ squad rebuild.

Securing him could be pivotal for Everton’s ambitions in the upcoming season.
