Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Leeds United has no doubt set off alarm bells at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were dominated by the newly promoted side, prompting many to believe that David Moyes has not been backed by Everton this summer.

As a result, further signings may be needed by Moyes if the Merseyside club are to avoid the drop.

With numerous players linked to Everton, Nathan Ake has now become a potential new addition.

Everton work on deal to sign Nathan Ake

Everton are no doubt in need of a new centre-back before the transfer window closes.

Jarrard Branthwaite has picked up a hamstring injury in Everton training, which is set to rule him out until early October.

Therefore, cover is needed, and Moyes is set to go big to ensure that the Toffees have a replacement for their star man.

According to The Bobble via X on 20 August, Everton are working on a deal to sign Nathan Ake.

  • Ake has made nearly 150 appearances for Man City
  • Since 2020, the Dutch international has won 10 trophies
  • Last season Ake only made 10 Premier League appearances

The Manchester City defender has been at the club since 2020, when he moved from Bournemouth.

However, his importance at the former Premier League champions has deteriorated over the years, and the 30-year-old was an unused substitute in their 4-0 victory over Wolves on the weekend.

Therefore, Moyes may now feel it is the ideal time to pounce and secure the signing of Ake.

Nathan Ake’s versatility would be vital for David Moyes

As well as a centre-back, Ake can also be utilised as a left-back.

This could prove to be vital for Everton going forward, with the Toffees also possessing limited options in this position.

After Vitaliy Mykolenko’s recent injury at Everton, James Garner was played as a left-back against Leeds United despite being a natural midfielder.

Therefore, signing Ake would prevent scenarios like this from happening again in the near future.
