David Moyes holds impressive Everton record only bettered by Newcastle ahead of Aston Villa clash
Everton are set to host Aston Villa on Saturday as domestic football returns after the international break.
Villa will no doubt be a tough match for David Moyes’ side, with the Birmingham outfit finishing in the European spots in the last three seasons.
It will also be an emotional match for Villa’s former captain Jack Grealish, who will be looking to get his first goal contribution against his former club since leaving.
However, Unai Emery’s side also carries considerable threats, which Moyes will feel that the Toffees are in a god position to nullify.

Everton have not conceded from a set-piece since February
While Everton may not currently have a set-piece coach, the Toffees have still proved formidable from dead balls.
This season, the Toffees have already scored off a set-piece, helping them to achieve their current fifth place.
Now, it has come to light that Moyes’ side is also excellent at defending them as well.
According to Opta editor Aaron Barton via X on 10 September, the Toffees have not conceded from a set-piece since 26 February.
Only Newcastle have a better record, beating it by three days on 23 February.
- Everton are excellent at defending set pieces
- This is despite set-piece specialist Charlie Adam leaving the Toffees in the summer
- In comparison, Aston Villa are excellent at scoring from dead balls
This could prove to be the difference maker in their Premier League clash on Saturday.
Last season, Villa proved to be a formidable threat off set plays, scoring 16 goals, the second most in the division.
Considering Emery’s side are yet to score a goal this season, they may be looking towards dead-ball situations to finally open their account.
Therefore, Moyes’ excellent work on defending from set-pieces could nullify this threat and give the Toffees an excellent chance of winning three Premier League matches in a row.
Everton haven’t conceded a Premier League goal from a set-piece (excl. pens) since February 26th.

David Moyes’ record vs Aston Villa
Another positive factor to look at going into the match is Moyes’ record against the Birmingham outfit.
The Scotsman has a great record against Villa, winning 13 of the 35 matches he has faced the side, only losing eight of the meetings.
While Moyes may face a tricky team selection dilemma for Everton this weekend, the manager usually has enough know-how to get at least a point.
Hopefully, this trend will continue once again on Saturday to continue Everton’s sensational start.
