Everton approach for Marc Bernal rejected after Barcelona loan proposal
Everton showed serious interest in signing Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal on loan this summer.
David Moyes has brought in a plethora of new faces to his Everton team and, in particular, has added much-needed depth to the midfield.
Everton signed Merlin Röhl, Charly Alcaraz, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the most recent transfer window.
Bernal is coming off a season where he was only able to make three La Liga appearances due to an ACL injury.

Chelsea and Brighton were also keen on Marc Bernal
Everton have had a great start to the Premier League season, with three wins in a row before heading into the international break.
Considering the impressive play from the Everton midfield to begin the season, it is difficult in hindsight to see if Bernal would start for this current team.
Mundo Deportivo reported on Friday that Valencia, Girona, Real Betis, Brighton, and Chelsea were also interested in bringing in the Spanish Under-17 international on loan for the season, but all were rejected as Bernal wanted to fight for his place at Barcelona.
It is understood that Everton were among the clubs who approached Barcelona over a deal, with the Spanish champions proposing a short-term loan that would see him return to Catalonia in January.
Staying put seems like it can pay off for Bernal as he is rumoured to be in Hansi Flick’s plans to be in the squad to face Valencia this weekend.
Had he come in, Bernal could have competed with Idrissa Gueye to play in defensive midfield and potentially have earned valuable minutes coming off the bench or starting in cup games.

Could Bernal have adapted to England?
Bernal is a player held in high regard by Flick, but he could have found it difficult to adapt to the Premier League as a young player coming off a serious injury.
He only made his professional debut last season. Without playing during preseason, it would have taken him some time to get up to speed and all while doing so in a new country and league.
Clearly, what Everton have done with their summer business has paid off so far with how their season has started.
The midfield looks to have enough depth for this team to have a great season.
