David Moyes will be keeping a keen eye on Harrison Armstrong's progress at Preston this season.

The Everton youth star spent last season on loan with Derby in the Championship, and impressed for the Blues in pre-season.

However, Everton have the impressive Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Idrissa Gueye in their engine room, and added Merlin Rohl to their squad on deadline day.

Therefore, Armstrong was not likely to be handed significant minutes at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton boss David Moyes will not like new Harrison Armstrong developments

Everton academy gem Armstrong joined Preston on loan on the final day of the transfer window, to get him senior football.

The aim is for the 18-year-old to play as much as possible, to help his development and eventually make him ready for Moyes' first team in the long term.

However, he has been left on the bench for the second-tier clash with Middlesbrough on 13 September, which Moyes will not be happy about.

Harrison Armstrong needs to be starting for Preston

Armstrong needs to be starting for the Lilywhites as much as possible, and the latest development will be concerning for the Blues.

The fact that Paul Heckingbottom has left him on the bench, could be down to rating the other options that he has, higher than the Toffees loanee.

  • Armstrong played 15 times in the second tier for Derby last season
  • Featured twice for Everton this season before going out on loan
  • He notched two assists in 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Mansfield Town

That would be disastrous for Armstrong from a personal perspective, as he will not get the minutes that he needs to develop properly.

However, it could just be a case of security, in terms of the Toffees man has not trained that much with the squad and is not used to the manager's tactics yet.

Heckingbottom has spoken about his excitement of securing the highly-rated Blues ace on a loan deal, so that may be the case.

Both sides will hope that Armstrong can thrive at Deepdale, and hopefully, the reason that he is not starting is the latter.
