Everton face arch-rivals Liverpool in their next match on Saturday.

Everton have started the Premier League season in fine form, but so have the Reds, winning all four of their matches so far.

For the first time in a long time, the Blues have a reason to be excited heading into an Anfield clash.

Everton do not have to fear Liverpool at Anfield

However, Moyes may be confident after the Opta Analyst revealed on 15 September that his side have spent more time in the lead this season than the league leaders.

The Blues have spent 39.9 per cent of their opening four matches in a winning position, while Slot's side have only been leading for 32.5 per cent of the time.

Data goes out of the window in Liverpool vs Everton

While Moyes may take encouragement from the data, he will also be aware that data goes out of the window in derby matches.

Whichever side can keep their emotions in check and not get caught up in the passion of the occasion stands the best chance of winning.

  • In the last 30 Merseyside derbies at Anfield in all competitions, Everton have won just twice, both in the league in 1999 and 2001
  • Liverpool have won 18 times at their home ground in the last 30 meetings
  • The sides have drawn on 10 occasions in that time

The Blues are in decent form, but the Reds represent a tougher challenge than anything that they have faced so far.

The data may also be skewed by the fact that Arne Slot's side have faced Newcastle and Arsenal, two sides that are expected to be in the higher echelons of the league.

Moyes will not be thinking about stats when the first ball is kicked, but he may fancy his side's chances, based on the Reds' start to the campaign.
