Paul Merson makes ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool claim in Everton prediction

Everton face Liverpool in one of the most eagerly anticipated Merseyside derbies on Saturday.

David Moyes has a dismal record as Everton manager against the Reds, failing to win in his 23 matches in charge of the Blues, West Ham, Sunderland and Manchester United.

Everton can take hope to beat Liverpool, as there are multiple aspects of their game that can hurt Slot’s side.

That is a view that Paul Merson also subscribes to, as he revealed in a new prediction about the Anfield clash.

Paul Merson makes new Liverpool vs Everton prediction

Merson has already highlighted Everton’s weapons for the clash, and he has now shared his thoughts on how the game will go.

He believes that the Reds will edge Moyes’ side out in a 2-1 victory, but the Blues will give the champions a difficult time.

In his weekly prediction column for Sportskeeda, Merson said: “It’s unbelievable how Liverpool have managed to win all four of their Premier League games so far this season.

“Considering how they’ve played in these games, they should be mid-table! I have to give huge credit to their incredible mentality though, they just never give up.

“In the past, you could never give Everton a chance at Anfield, but if they keep things tight at the back, I think they have the quality to hurt Liverpool.

“However, I still think the reigning Premier League champions will edge it.”

Everton can beat Liverpool at Anfield

The Blues have not had much to write home about when it comes to visiting Anfield in recent years, but they are in the best position that they have been in a long time.

The form that they have started the season in, combined with the fact that the Reds have relied on late winners in every league game so far, means that the Toffees can come away with a result.

Moyes’ side have actually held the lead more than the champions in their opening four league matches so far, and they can take encouragement from that, given their miserable record at their arch-rivals’ ground.

Merson may have predicted a narrow win for the hosts, but he would probably not be surprised if the Blues came away with all three points either.

It is the most excitement that the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit has entered an Anfield derby with in a long time, and they will hope to harness that into victory.
