Wayne Rooney amazed at what he witnessed at Anfield in Everton loss vs Liverpool
Everton were unfortunate to lose 2-1 away at Liverpool on Saturday.
Jack Grealish almost led an Everton fightback from a two-goal deficit at David Moyes‘ bogey ground, after the Blues had given up two cheap goals.
Everton boss Moyes has now failed to win in 23 attempts at Anfield, and his side could not break the hoodoo despite a great start to the campaign.

Wayne Rooney criticises Liverpool vs Everton
Wayne Rooney had opened up on an Everton versus Liverpool incident that he was a part of in his career, and he was keeping an eye on the action.
The ex-Blues star did not enjoy what he was watching, claiming that the match was not like a Merseyside derby.
Rooney told the BBC’s live blog on 20 September (2:10pm): “This doesn’t have the feel of a Merseyside derby game. At all.”
Liverpool vs Everton felt like a derby in the end
When Rooney made his comments, the game was in a bit of a lull, and did lack the atmosphere and intensity that typically comes with a derby between these two sides.
It did spark into life, though, and the Blues had chances to level the contest, with the Reds also nearly increasing their narrow lead in the final few minutes of the tense clash.
- Liverpool had 58 per cent possession compared to 42 for the visitors
- Everton had nine shots, with the hosts taking 11 efforts at goal
- Everton had 22 touches in the Reds’ box, with 26 for the hosts
It seems as though Arne Slot’s side felt comfortable with their lead and accepted the fact that the Toffees would come at them in the second half, which made the clash less enjoyable, rather than two swashbuckling sides going forward at all times.
Ultimately, Moyes and Co. were disappointed at the final whistle after they could not grab a leveller, and the match will not be recalled by Blues supporters anytime soon.
They have had their moments in recent years, James Tarkowski’s late equaliser comes to mind, but it was not to be on this occasion, and they could not find the strike that they needed.
