Jordan Pickford could break yet another England record that’s stood since 1966

Jordan Pickford could go down in history for England before he returns to Everton once the Premier League resumes.

Pickford reached a 300 appearance milestone for Everton when a last-minute Jack Grealish winner against Crystal Palace secured all three points for the Toffees.

The reliable keeper has kept two clean sheets in seven league games, saving Danny Welbeck’s penalty in Everton’s win over Brighton earlier this season.

Pickford is now one of several Everton players called up for international duty after impressing for their club.

Jordan Pickford could have most England clean sheets

While Grealish’s stellar performances for Everton have not been enough to earn him an England call-up, Pickford remains a constant in a Three Lions shirt.

Indeed, the goalkeeper could break his own England record, currently shared with the legendary Gordon Banks, of seven consecutive clean sheets if he does not concede over the international break.

The record goes all the way back to 1966 and while there is a chance he won’t play in the Three Lions friendly against Wales on 9 October, he will certainly start their World Cup Qualifying match against Latvia on 14 October.

After dedicating several years and strong performances to England, the 31-year-old keeper deserves to have another record under his belt.

What other records has Jordan Pickford broken for England?

Pickford has broken several records for England while leading the Three Lions from the back.

The Evertonian keeper overtook Peter Shilton as England’s most-capped goalkeeper in major tournaments in June 2024 after making his 21st appearance during their 1-1 draw to Denmark at the Euros.

He also broke Shilton’s record for the most clean sheets kept by an English goalkeeper at major international tournaments when he kept 11 in 22 appearances after the Three Lions’ goalless group stage draw to Slovenia at the 2024 Euros.

Furthermore, Pickford has not conceded in over 600 minutes for England, after keeping a clean sheet against Andorra last international break, matching a record first set by the great World Cup-winning Gordon Banks.

The England keeper has served his country well season after season and will no doubt overtake a couple more records when its all said and done.
